A thrilling but ultimately frustrating afternoon at Hill Dickinson Stadium left Manchester United with just a point to show from their trip to Everton on Sunday. Michael Carrick's men had looked on course for three points, only to be denied by a dramatic stoppage-time leveller that will undoubtedly sting heading into a crucial week.
United had arrived on Merseyside off the back of some mixed early-season form. A chastening 2-0 opening-day reverse at the hands of Hull City had raised early concerns, but Carrick's squad responded emphatically with a five-goal dismantling of Ipswich Town.
Sunday's visit to Everton represented another opportunity to build momentum in the Premier League. It appeared United would do exactly that.
Bryan Mbeumo's well-taken effort gave them the lead shortly after the interval, and for long stretches the visitors looked capable of holding on for a deserved victory. Tyrique George pulled Everton level with eight minutes remaining, before Benjamin Sesko thought he had won it for United in the 87th minute.
Yet the game had one final twist in store. Deep into six minutes of added time, the ball dropped to Ainsley Maitland-Niles on the edge of the United penalty area and his long-distance effort beat Senne Lammens to snatch a point for the hosts.
Gary Neville has highlighted Patrick Dorgu for his contribution to the late leveller. The Denmark international only came on in the 70th minute for Marcus Rashford, who made his feelings clear over the result shortly after the final whistle.
Here, the Manchester Evening News rounds up the latest developments from Old Trafford ahead of United's Thursday evening European fixture.
Marcus Rashford's feelings clear
Rashford, who began his second successive league match on Sunday, posted on Instagram following Everton's late fightback with a message to his 22.3 million followers. "So unlucky not to come away with all the points today! The results will come. Big week coming up starting with Thursday's game," he wrote.
Notably, among those commenting were two of his former team-mates from his loan spell at Barcelona: Roony Bardghji and Fermin Lopez. Bardghji wrote: "Man like Rashy" while Fermin simply posted a clapping hands and love-heart eyes emoji.
The pair have clearly not forgotten about the 28-year-old, who had been linked with a permanent return to the Camp Nou following his stint there, and would in all likelihood have welcomed his comeback given their warm words. Yet the forward has ultimately remained at Old Trafford to attempt to resurrect his United career under Carrick.
Neville slams 'mistake'
Dorgu, who came on for Rashford against Everton, has drawn criticism from former United defender Neville, who believes his wayward pressing was a key factor in the late goal being conceded.

On his The Gary Neville Podcast, the Sky Sports pundit dissected the closing stages of the match that led to Maitland-Niles netting the equaliser. He said: "That last goal is a really bad one. Dorgu, for some reason, chases out and presses – isolated press. Andrey Santos then doesn't go cover behind him and stays back.
"It just gets played past Dorgu. It's a massive mistake that. It's a massive mistake from Dorgu but he might have been told to go press by Santos. But it just strikes me as a lack of communication."
