Captain Manuel Locatelli is set for a lengthy layoff after tests showed he will need to have surgery on a torn lateral meniscus in his knee, sources said Tuesday, in a fresh blow for coach Luciano Spalletti, who is also without France midfielder Khéphren Thuram and Turkey playmaker Kenan Yildiz at the moment because of long-term injuries.
Italy midfielder Locatelli will have the operation in Lyon and is unlikely to be able to return before the end of this year, the sources said.
