Manchester United were among several Premier League clubs to enquire about Mohamed Kader Meite before the summer transfer deadline, and their interest in the young striker has reportedly not gone away.
The 18-year-old has attracted attention across England for some time. Meite stands at a massive 6ft 4in and has already represented France at Under-21 level.
United keep track of Mohamd Kader Meite
According to TEAMtalk, United remained in contact over Meite this summer after the forward’s move to Al-Hilal.
Meite left Rennes in January and made the surprising decision to continue his development in Saudi Arabia. He signed a three-and-a-half-year contract with Al-Hilal, but his situation soon attracted attention from clubs in Europe.
Manchester United were not alone in showing interest. Arsenal, Aston Villa, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur were also made aware that Mohamed Kader Meite could potentially become available.
The teenager was himself considering a return to Europe this summer, with intermediaries looking into possible opportunities on his behalf.
That gave Premier League clubs a chance to explore the situation, but Al-Hilal ultimately made their position clear.
The Saudi club were not prepared to entertain approaches for Meite this summer, despite the interest coming from several sides in England. That decision effectively ended any possibility of a move before the deadline.
For United, though, the story may not be over. The striker remains on their radar, while his age and physical profile make him an interesting prospect for the future.
