Christopher Nkunku turned down two Premier League clubs in order to secure a move back to RB Leipzig, including Manchester United.
Having been told by the new AC Milan head coach Ruben Amorim that he is not part of his plans, Nkunku and his agent began the search for a new club. Leipzig came forward and were able to seal a loan with option to buy.

Things have started well for the Frenchman as he got an assist off the bench on his return last weekend. He started in Saturday’s 3-1 defeat to Werder Bremen, and now some further background on his summer switch has arrived.
RB Leipzig’s sporting director Marcel Schafer said: “The transfer wouldn’t have happened without Christo’s steadfastness. Two Premier League clubs were prepared to go to the limit – we wouldn’t have stood a chance.”

According to BILD (via the MEN), Nkunku ‘only wanted a return to Leipzig’, rejecting advances from both Manchester United and Newcastle United to get a move back to Saxony.
It is the place where the 28-year-old has played the best football of his career as he was named Bundesliga player of the season in 2021-22 with the Red Bull club, having scored 20 goals and added 15 assists in 34 league games.
