Lisandro Martinez could have a big decision waiting for him at Manchester United next summer, with doubts beginning to emerge over his long-term future at Old Trafford.
The Argentina international remains part of Michael Carrick’s plans and has started United’s last two games. But his contract situation, recent performances and injury record are now creating questions about what happens next.
Former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown believes Martinez is one player worth watching closely as the club considers its options.

Martinez’s current contract is due to expire in 2027. Manchester United do have an option to extend it by another year, which would give the club the chance to avoid losing him for nothing and potentially look at a sale next summer.
Brown told Football Insider that there are already doubts about the defender despite him continuing to be highly regarded within the club.
“Lisandro Martinez is going to be one to watch, there are a few doubts about him,” Brown said.
The former scout also questioned Martinez’s consistency after his mistake against Ipswich, when he was caught trying to play the ball across his own box.
“He’s too inconsistent, and that’s a problem if he starts giving away goals like the one against Ipswich where he was lucky that the game was already done at that point.”
Brown believes mistakes of that nature raise serious questions about whether Martinez can be trusted as United look to move forward.
“It’s nowhere near good enough for an international-class defender to get caught out trying to play the ball across your own box.”
His injury record is another concern for United, according to Brown. That could make the club’s decision even more complicated.
“It would obviously be a bit of a shock to let him go for free, because he’s still highly regarded and could do a job for a lot of clubs, but I’m not convinced
