Manchester United’s plan to sign Lewis Hall could be left in ruins with the Newcastle left-back reportedly close to signing a contract extension at St. James’ Park. United were said to have identified Hall as their primary target this summer, but were told to look elsewhere by a determined Newcastle.
Having lost Sandro Tonali to Tottenham, Bruno Guimaraes to Arsenal, Anthony Gordon to Barcelona, and even manager Eddie Howe on the eve of the season, the Magpies were insistent that Hall wasn’t for sale. United did explore alternative options, with Alejandro Balde, Ian Maatsen, and Rayan Ait-Nouri all linked in the final week of the transfer window.
But ultimately, they opted against making a move, with suggestions they would return for Hall in the summer of 2027. However, that plan might’ve been complicated by suggestions that Hall is closing in on a contract extension with the 2025 Carabao Cup winners.
TalkSPORT are reporting a deal is in the works, with an expectation that it will be signed, sealed and then delivered later this week. Hall is rated highly at Newcastle, with the North East outfit having offered him a two-year extension with better terms.

At this stage, there are no indications that there is a release clause in the 22-year-old’s contract, which could spell danger for United. Having decided to put their eggs in the basket of holding out and waiting for Hall, the Red Devils could face a hefty bill should they come to sign him next summer.

Michael Carrick was asked about their current options in that position, with the United boss suggesting that Patrick Dorgu will be the back-up to Luke Shaw. "He [Dorgu] can certainly play there, he has done and I am not saying he can't do that. The way we’ve worked since I’ve been here, he’s unfortunately been injured for some time.
"For me he’s almost like a new player to have, like a new signing in some ways because he’s added so much to the group. He played off the right for Denmark and scored a great goal in the summer, he can play left-back. He can do a number of things. At some point he might have to do that. There are times in training when he does it. He’s only young and having the attributes he has got, we have to try and get the most out of him."
