Manchester United have reportedly set their sights on a 2027 move for Newcastle United’s Malick Thiaw.
According to CaughtOffside, Liverpool are also among the defender’s suitors as he navigates his second season in England.

Thiaw has started and played the full 90 minutes in all three of Newcastle’s opening Premier League fixtures, while he’s also donned the captain’s armband in the absence of Dan Burn and Joelinton.
He is valued at £39 million by Transfermarkt, though the Magpies would certainly demand a sizeable profit on the £35m they shelled out for him back in August 2025.

The 25-year-old joined from AC Milan on a five-year deal, keeping him tied to St. James’ Park until June 2028.
INEOS targeting Thiaw as well as Lewis Hall

United’s interest comes after reports have claimed INEOS will prioritise a full defensive rebuild next summer, having done so with the midfield this year and the frontline in 2025.
In an ideal world, they would bring in both Thiaw and his Magpies teammate Lewis Hall, who is United’s ideal successor to Luke Shaw at left-back.
However, speculation is now strongly suggesting the 22-year-old is ready to commit to a contract extension on Tyneside; Hall’s current terms are due to run until 2029, and he is said to be on the verge of signing a bumper deal until 2031.

Newcastle are desperate to keep hold of the youngster anyway, but his frequent links to the Red Devils over the last few months would’ve undoubtedly prompted them to act sooner and have Hall’s long-term future secured with the club.
As a result, United may turn their attention away from Hall entirely and view Thiaw, who represented Germany at the World Cup, as a more feasible target.
