SumUp secures Man Utd sleeve slot as it builds it Premier League presence

September 9 – Manchester United have confirmed SumUp as their new sleeve partner, with the fintech firm’s logo going on the men’s, women’s and academy shirts across all competitions, plus branding at Old Trafford and the women’s Progress with Unity Stadium.

The men’s team first wear the patch on their return to the Champions League against Sabah on Thursday.

SumUp replaces DXC Technology, whose four-season deal ended in August, leaving United to wear Premier League patches for their opening games while the slot sat empty, as league rules require.

The value of the sponsorship is understood to be more than £20 million annually.

United chief business officer Marc Armstrong welcomed the tie-up. “SumUp is a rapidly growing global business, and we are delighted to welcome them to Manchester United as our official sleeve partner,” he said, adding it “reflects the continued appeal of Manchester United as a platform for ambitious brands looking to connect with audiences around the world.”

Last month SumUp agreed a training kit sponsorship with Premier League rivals Manchester United.

SumUp’s chief commercial officer Luke Griffiths pitched it around the fan experience. “Football is about the moments people share: watching the match with friends, travelling to see the team, wearing the shirt with pride and celebrating together, wherever you are,” he said, wanting to reach United fans “in those moments.”
