Manchester United are back in the Champions League and JJ Gabriel will be itching to make his European debut.
In pre-season, JJ Gabriel made his Manchester United debut in a friendly against Atletico Madrid.
He became the youngest-ever player to represent the Red Devils at 15 years and 299 days. Last season, Gabriel was too young to play in the Premier League, but that has changed in 2026/27.
United’s most exciting wonderkid is now available to play in league matches, but what about the Champions League?

Can JJ Gabriel play for Man United in the Champions League?
Gabriel is training with United’s first team and has been since last season. Despite his age, he is inching closer towards being in Michael Carrick’s matchday squad.
United kick off their Champions League campaign on Thursday evening against Sabah FK, the Azerbaijan Premier League champions.
The good news for Manchester United is that JJ Gabriel IS eligible to play Champions League football this season.
Arsenal wonderkid Max Dowman became the youngest-ever debutant in Champions League history last season at 15 years and 308 days.
Gabriel will celebrate his 16th birthday on October 6th. As he is an eligible first-team player for United this season, he can feature in UEFA competitions.

When JJ Gabriel could make his Champions League debut
United learned their eight Champions League opponents in the group phase in last month’s draw.
First up for United is Sabah FK on Thursday. The next Champions League match will arrive after Gabriel’s birthday against Atletico Madrid on October 13 – the same opponent he made his debut against this summer.

Carrick will be forced to rotate his United starting XI this season as the Red Devils partake in four competitions. Whether or not Gabriel is involved in that rotation is yet to be seen.
With Bruno Fernandes, Matheus Cunha and Shea Lacey all competing for a central attacking midfield role this season, Gabriel has his work cut out to get into the side.
