Tottenham could revive their interest in Serie A star in 2027.
Tottenham Hotspur showed great intent and ambition in the past summer transfer window. In came 10 fresh faces, as Roberto De Zerbi addressed glaring issues in his squad.
The North Londoners had identified the defence as a big concern after last season’s horror show. This led to Spurs strengthening their centre-back options by signing Jan Paul van Hecke and Marcos Senesi, before bringing in Tosin Adarabioyo from Chelsea on deadline day. At the same time, they offloaded centre-backs Cristian Romero, Luka Vuskovic, Radu Dragusin and Ashley Phillips, whilst loaning out Kota Takai.
Before the arrivals of Senesi and Van Hecke, Tottenham were interested in recruiting a highly-rated Serie A defender.
Tottenham ready to splash big to sign Juventus defender
Pierre Kalulu had emerged as one of the most coveted defensive talents heading into the summer transfer window, thanks to his impressive performances for Juventus in Serie A. Spurs were interested in signing the versatile Frenchman, but their pursuit suffered a blow when reports emerged that Juventus were accelerating plans to tie him down to a new contract.
While Pierre Kalulu is keen to continue in Turin and dreams of winning the Scudetto, Juventus are yet to hand him a new contract. This has opened the door again for Tottenham and other Premier League clubs to revive their interest in the 25-year-old.
Now, according to TuttoJuve, Tottenham, Aston Villa and Newcastle United are looking to pay ‘significant sums’ to sign Kalulu, while Paris Saint-Germain could also revive their interest and join the transfer race in 2027. Juventus are alert to the recent developments, especially as Kalulu’s contract expires in the summer of 2029.
Spurs must focus on addressing other areas of the pitch
Undoubtedly, Kalulu is a talented defender who has shown his versatility, operating at both centre-back and full-back. The France international continues to be a mainstay in Luciano Spalletti’s defence, having started all three of their Serie A games.
Spalletti highly rates the 25-year-old due to his flexibility, composure, technical ability, pace and reading of the game. Kalulu is also a leader on the pitch and offers valuable experience of playing in the Champions League. However, with the player keen to continue with the Old Lady and having a contract until 2029, Tottenham are going to struggle to convince him to join their defensive forces.
Unless De Zerbi’s side makes real progress in the upcoming months and genuinely challenges for the Champions League spots, Tottenham would find it difficult to compete with Aston Villa and other interested clubs to sign Kalulu from Juventus.
