Brazil are beginning a new era following their disappointing exit from the 2026 World Cup.
Carlo Ancelotti’s side were eliminated in the last 16 and must now build towards the 2030 tournament, when Brazil will attempt to end what will then be a 28-year wait to become world champions again.
Ancelotti has named a youthful 26-man squad for the country’s first three fixtures since the World Cup.
Brazil will face Australia on 25th and 29th September before playing India for the first time in their history on 3rd October.
Manchester United midfielder Andrey Santos has officially been included in Ancelotti’s squad, earning his first call-up since completing his summer move to Old Trafford.
Brazil revealed the squad through their official Instagram account, writing: “26 called up! Brazil are ready for new challenges: two games against Australia and the first meeting in history against India. This is Brazil!”
Santos joined United from Chelsea in July, becoming Michael Carrick’s first signing of the summer.
United reportedly paid £48 million with a further £2m available through add-ons for the 22-year-old, who signed a contract running until June 2031 with the option of another season.
The midfielder had already represented Brazil before moving to Manchester. He made his senior international debut against Morocco in March 2023 and has also captained his country at youth level.
Andrey Santos led Brazil to the 2023 South American Under-20 Championship, finishing as the tournament’s joint-leading scorer with six goals despite operating from midfield.
His latest selection places him alongside Bruno Guimaraes, Danilo Santos, Douglas Luiz, Breno Bidon and Gabriel Bontempo in Ancelotti’s midfield group.
Competition for places at United has increased following the arrivals of Youri Tielemans and Carlos Baleba, while Kobbie Mainoo remains another option for Carrick.
However, being retained by Brazil at the beginning of a new international cycle underlines Santos’ growing reputation and provides him with an opportunity to strengthen his claim for a regular role for both club and country.
