Premier League transfer news latest as Chelsea, Tottenham, Aston Villa, Man United and more ponder January deals
We’re counting down to Gameweek 4 of the 2026/27 Premier League, after an exhilarating opening three weeks of action in England’s top tier. As many expected, Arsenal and Manchester City are setting the tone at the top of the league, while surprise package Hull City have so far defied their doubters and sit third in the table with seven points.

Meanwhile, recruitment teams are being hauled before their club owners to dissect the summer transfer window. Those at Man City and Brentford will no doubt be in for glowing reviews, while the decision makers at Everton and Aston Villa may be in for slightly trickier conversations after distinctly underwhelming wheeling and dealing during the summer months.
Today’s rumours round-up begins at Stamford Bridge, where Chelsea are still rueing their failure to bring in a replacement for Enzo Fernandez on Deadline Day. At one point during their 2-1 loss to Arsenal last weekend, they had to utilise two right-backs in midfield. According to Football Insider, the club will look to remedy this issue next summer.
They say that the Blues will have no luck signing long-standing target Adam Wharton from Crystal Palace in January, but could well make a move to sign him at the end of the season. The ex-Blackburn Rovers star is said to have struck an “informal agreement” with the Eagles, which should allow him to leave Selhurst Park once the 2026/27 campaign concludes.
The 3AM Verdict: Chelsea can’t really afford to wait until next summer to sort out their threadbare midfield, with Moises Caicedo currently injured, and both Romeo Lavia and stand-in Reece James not exactly renowned for their robustness. We have a feeling the Blues will manage to tempt Bournemouth into selling Alex Scott in January, before targeting Wharton in the following window.

Next up, Club Brugge striker Nicolo Tresoldi is said to have captured the attention of both Tottenham and Man United. According to Team Talk, scouts from both clubs were present to see him score during his side’s 3-2 loss to Aston Villa on Tuesday evening. Tresoldi, who plundered his way to 23 goals in all competitions last season, has been tipped as potential replacement for Joshua Zirkzee at United.
The report goes on to details the 22-year-old’s interest from Spurs, describing him as being “high on their radar”. Tottenham are short on options up top, with Dominic Solanke their only out-and-out centre forward, with Omar Marmoush offering a more versatile backup option.
The 3AM Verdict: Tresoldi was linked with a number of Premier League clubs last summer, but failed to seal a move away from his current club. We do tend to see a lot of these “scouting” stories at this time of year, most of which don’t come to anything. However, there’s no doubting that Tresoldi is a top young talent, and we wouldn’t be surprised to see him pitch up in England at some point.

We’ll finish things off in Turin, where Juventus look like they could have trouble holding on to their star full-back Pierre Kalulu. Italian outlet Tutto Juve say that the club are looking to tie the French right-back down to a new deal, despite his current contract running until 2029. This is said to be due to growing interest from a host of Premier League clubs.
Aston Villa and Tottenham are claimed to be among the interest parties, along with the likes of Newcastle United and Liverpool. The clubs are said to be “always lurking” when it comes to Kalulu, while Paris Saint-Germain are also mentioned as a potential destination. Juventus are believed to be firm in their “not for sale” stance, despite English clubs tipped to be ready to pay “significant money” to sign the three-cap France international.
The 3AM Verdict: It’s been a barren few years for Juve when it comes to winning the league title, and even longer in terms of their Champions League success. Holding on to Kalulu could well prove tricky, but we can’t see him ousting Pedro Porro at Spurs any time soon. However, he’d be a great long-term replacement for Matty Cash at Villa.
