Manchester United reportedly sent scouts to watch Club Brugge forward Nicolo Tresoldi in the Champions League on Tuesday night. The Red Devils will begin their own campaign against Azerbaijani champions Sabah this evening, with Michael Carrick having led the club back into European competition at the end of last season.
United oversaw a productive summer window, in which they managed to rebuild their midfield with the signings of Andrey Santos, Youri Tielemans and Carlos Baleba. However, they failed to sign a left-back or another striker to provide extra competition for the likes of Benjamin Sesko and Matheus Cunha.
Tresoldi was tentatively linked with United throughout the summer, but ended up staying at Club Brugge beyond the deadline.
However, it seems the Premier League giants could still launch a move for the talented 22-year-old when the market reopens in January.
According to TEAMtalk, club representatives watched Tresoldi in action for Club Brugge against Aston Villa, which took place just 48 hours before United's game against Sabah.
While he wasn't able to prevent a narrow 3-2 defeat, the youngster still managed to impact the game by scoring a penalty in the second half.
The report adds that United weren't the only club to send scouts to that fixture, with Tottenham doing the same. The north Londoners are thought to be monitoring Tresoldi as they consider revamping their forward line.

United reportedly view him as a possible long-term attacking addition, particularly with Joshua Zirkzee facing an uncertain future at Old Trafford.
Zirkzee attracted interest from Juventus, Fiorentina and Everton during the summer window and could leave in January if he remains a bit-part player for United.
Tresoldi, meanwhile, finished last season as the Belgian Pro League’s top scorer with 19 goals to his name. He remains tied down to Club Brugge until the summer of 2029.
He is reportedly valued at around £43million by his current employers, but it remains to be seen if United will be prepared to pay that figure in January.
