[Manchester United's](https://roundtable.io/sports/soccer/premier-league/manchester-united) management change last season, when Ruben Amorim was sacked, did not only impact the first team.
When Michael Carrick took charge, he promoted Travis Binnion from the Under-21s to be among his coaching unit and the 39-year-old has continued in that role.
That led United to need a new coach for their youth side, and the appointment of Adam Lawrence was well received.
Lawrence had coached United's Under-18s to a treble-winning campaign in 2024 but decided to move to Newcastle the following year to take charge of their Under-21s side.
He returned to Old Trafford last season and it has since been confirmed that Lawrence will continue to manage the club's academy team.
On Thursday morning, United confirmed that Lawrence will remain at the club, and academy director Stephen Torpey expressed his feelings on the move.
Torpey, who joined the club from Brentford last year, explained how Lawrence helps the 'great alignment' throughout the club.
“I’m really pleased that Adam will lead our Professional Development Phase," the academy director told club media.
“Having worked for Manchester United for a number of years, Adam fully understands the football club and our ambitious plans for the future of the Academy.
“There is great alignment across the football club; the excellent working relationships will really benefit our young players as we continue to strive to be the greatest developers of football excellence.”
This follows on from recent reports which have highlighted a change in the club's Under-21s this season.
In recent years, the PL2 side was treated separately to the first-team and did not change formations when Ruben Amorim was in charge, for example.
However, it now seems that Lawrence's side will set up in a similar way to Carrick's team; a move that increases alignment and can help youngsters move into the first-team environment.
In recent games, Amir Ibragimov has been used as a false-nine in a similar fashion to Matheus Cunha, while JJ Gabriel has operated in the Bruno Fernandes role as the no,10.
United will be hoping that these adjustments will help the academy talent progress further and provide support for Carrick and his squad.
