JJ Gabriel has continued his sensational rise to form with a stunning performance on his UEFA Youth League debut. The Youth League is contested by the under-19 teams of the clubs competing in the UEFA Champions League league phase, with United returning to the competition this season.
The young Red Devils were facing the same team as the senior team, Sabah FK of Azerbaijan. And the English side made no mistake in their opening fixture, defeating Sabah 5-0 at Leigh Sports Village.
The star man - or rather boy - in that victory was teenage sensation, Gabriel, who netted three goals for the hosts. The 15-year-old marked his debut in the competition with an eye-catching performance, which will no doubt send Michael Carrick and the United senior coaches a message.
Gabriel has been involved in senior training before and was present with the squad for their pre-season tour, although his minutes were limited by Carrick. But it will be increasingly hard for the United boss to resist Gabriel, should the youngster continue to sparkle for the youth team.
Carrick has commented on the starlet previously, saying: "JJ is one of the boys. He's obviously got a really big talent. He's trained with us quite a bit and is getting experience all the time. He's physically adapting to each step, and we're just continuing his development."
