Manchester United’s pursuit of a new stadium is ongoing but it now appears that the club have taken a major step forward in its development.
The Red Devils initially announced plans to build a new stadium, replacing Old Trafford, in March 2025 with possible images of United’s new home unveiled to the media.
Later approval from the United Kingdom government followed, with them “really keen” to get on with it, although they said that they would not provide funding for the stadium, but instead would help the club to access other benefits of the stadium.
Further uncertainty has followed over the course of the last 18 months, especially when CMA CGM bought land that is vital to the development, although, after securing the land needed, United revealed the desired location of the new stadium.
Another major step to the project’s development has now been taken with Stadium DB stating that Foster + Partners have been selected as the stadium’s architects.
Norman Foster has been a name largely associated with Manchester United’s new stadium with him even opening up on the project last summer to the public.
With architects for the stadium now selected, it appears that the project is starting to take major steps.
Focus will now switch to Foster + Partners to see if they can deliver a stadium model that works for all parties.
Many issues will need to be addressed during the architecture phase of the project, including logistics, transport, materials, and costs.
Should they be able to design a stadium that fits the needs and desires of all parties, including Manchester United, its supporters, private investors, and other relevant public authorities, the possibility of the new stadium being built will go up significantly.
That puts this stage amongst the most vital of those that must be undertaken during the development of the stadium.
