Darren Fletcher bickered with a supporter outside Old Trafford following Manchester United’s Champions League win over Sabah FK.
Manchester United beat Sabah FK 4-0 in their first match of the 2026/27 Champions League campaign.
Every Premier League club playing in Europe’s most prestigious tournament got off to a winning start this week, though United won by the biggest margin and sit fourth in the league phase.
Despite getting off to a flying start, not everyone left Old Trafford in the happiest of moods, and we’re not talking about those associated with United’s Azerbaijani opponents.

Darren Fletcher’s heated confrontation with fan at Old Trafford
Former United midfielder and U-18s head coach Darren Fletcher has been filmed quarrelling with a fan at Old Trafford after Thursday night’s 4-0 victory over Sabah FK.
United delivered a brilliant performance with four different goalscorers and a first clean sheet for Senne Lammens. Yet, it still wasn’t enough to stop one fan from allegedly shouting abuse towards the players as they left the stadium.
Fletcher confronted the fan and shouted back from a distance, saying: “Hey, listen. It doesn’t matter – you can’t speak like that.
“No, no. Show some respect.”
Outside jeers make it difficult to make out Fletcher’s next words, but he clearly calls out the fan for reacting poorly to not getting player autographs.
Fletcher can be heard saying: “Are you the reason people don’t sign? Yeah, you’re the reason people don’t sign.”
@_StrettyEnd shared a video of the confrontation between Fletcher and a fan on X.
Though the footage missed what prompted Fletcher’s response, he clearly felt the fan crossed a line.

Darren Fletcher won the Champions League in 2008
Although Fletcher was an unused substitute in the 2008 Champions League final, he does have a winners’ medal for the role he played in Sir Alex Ferguson’s triumphant side.
Fletcher suffered heartbreak in the following season when he reached the final of the competition, but missed it against Barcelona after receiving a controversial red card against Arsenal in the semi-final.
The former Scotland international reached the final again in 2011, but he was an unused substitute again as United lost to Barcelona in their second final match-up in two years.
