Darren Fletcher was involved in an altercation with a Manchester United supporter following Thursday night’s 4-0 victory over Sabah in the Champions League.
United got their 2026-27 Champions League campaign off to the perfect start with a comprehensive win over the Azerbaijan Premier League champions, who were formed in September 2017.
Matheus Cunha scored the opening goal in the 27th minute before Bruno Fernandes and Benjamin Sesko joined the Brazilian on the scoresheet shortly before half-time.
Defender Lisandro Martinez added gloss to the scoreline by netting his fourth goal for the Red Devils midway through the second half.
"It's nice to keep a clean sheet and obviously win the game. Some of the football we played was really good, [we were] dangerous on transition,” Man Utd head coach Michael Carrick told TNT Sports after the final whistle.
"I have to give them [Sabah] a lot of credit, they were difficult to play against. The result looks comfortable, it wasn't always like that. We just did a lot of good things tonight, which gave us a good result."

Sesko, who scored his second goal of the season, added: "I think it was perfect for everyone, especially our fans. It means a lot to them, especially when they see so many goals. I think it was great for us in general to give us more motivation for the upcoming games."

Fletcher Clashes With Fan Who 'Crossed the Line'

However, not every United supporter was happy after the final whistle. One fan waiting outside Old Trafford was even reprimanded by the club’s former midfielder Fletcher, whose son Tyler was an unused substitute.
Footage posted to X (Twitter) by @_StettyEnd shows Fletcher shouting: “Hey, listen. It doesn’t matter – you can’t speak like that.
“No, no. Show some respect.”
When the fan shouts back, Fletcher responds: “And you're the reason people don’t sign. Yeah, you’re the reason people don’t sign.” Watch the clip below:
The supporter who uploaded the video tweeted: “That fan was appalling! Definitely crossed the line in what he said and how he said it!”
Asked to provide more context about what happened, they added: “I can't recall word for word, but he was shouting at every player who did not sign.
“Fletcher did sign, but didn’t get round to him, so as he walked away he said something like - you're disrespectful and used bad words too. the way he said it too, very aggressive.”
Fletcher, capped 80 times by Scotland between 2003-2017, is currently employed as the head coach of Manchester United’s Under-18s side.
The retired midfielder took charge of two United games following Ruben Amorim’s sacking in January before Carrick’s appointment as caretaker manager.
Both of his 19-year-old twin sons, Tyler and Jack Fletcher, are on the fringes of United’s first team.
