[Manchester United](https://roundtable.io/sports/soccer/premier-league/manchester-united) began their Champions League campaign in near-perfect fashion, defeating Azerbaijan side Sabah 4-0 and displaying brilliant attacking play, along with their first clean sheet of the season.
United had a somewhat disappointing start to the game, taking 27 minutes to break the deadlock; most fans expected a convincing thrashing, but this delayed opener left many on tenterhooks.
It was Matheus Cunha who opened the scoring with his first of the season. Bruno Fernandes then followed up, making it his fourth goal in four games; Sesko then found the third on the edge of half-time, and finally Lisandro Martinez tapped in the fourth, following a howler from Sabah's keeper, Pokalitov.
A much-needed boost of confidence for the Red Devils before the Manchester derby on Sunday, also, some key players got needed rest, such as Rashford and Maguire not featuring, and Mbeumo, Sesko, Mainoo, and Tielemans being subbed.
Benjamin Sesko was interviewed alongside Patrick Dorgu on the pitch straight after the game's climax. He spoke to TNT Sports, where he shared his thoughts on the game.
"I think it was perfect for everyone, especially our fans. It means a lot to them, especially when they see so many goals. I think it was great for us in general to give us more motivation for the upcoming games.
When asked about he goal he said: "I saw him rushing out, and it was a great opportunity to take the ball away from him to make the goal a little bit easier. Of course, I’m happy with my goal.
Sesko then spoke about how multiple players got on the scoresheet. "I think it’s important that everyone can score a goal. I hope for many games for that.
He finally discussed the boost that the result will give the players before the derby, sending a warning shot to City.
"Definitely. I think the confidence boost is definitely big. It’s important to recover good and focus on the derby."
The Slovenian had a pretty solid performance today, but the main positive is that he is back starting games for Manchester United and will surely be ready for Manchester City on the weekend.
United were crying out for a focal point up-front against Everton, which was proven when Sesko came on and scored late on; therefore, with him being back in the starting lineup, and getting some rest at the end of the game, we should see him start against City.
It is no secret that the start to the season for United has left a lot to be desired, however, when it comes to derby day at Old Trafford, absolutely anything can happen.
Man United's away form so far has been very poor with a loss to Hull and a draw to Everton, but at home, they have score nine goals in just two matches.
Granted, those matches against Ipswich and Sabah were seen as "easy wins", and City will obviously be a completely different test for United, the Red Devils do tend to unleash a new beast inside themselves against the big teams as of late, such as their 2-0 win last year against the Citizens.
Since the Hull game, United have established a comfortable midfield in Mainoo and Tielemans, and have Sesko back starting games, alluding to the fact that the team facing City is nothing like the one that was defeated against Hull.
On the other hand, City have started the season much stronger than United, winning every game bar the Community Shield match. Winning games regardless of poor performance, such as against Coventry and Bournemouth, and dominated games against Crystal Palace and Porto.
It will be a very tough and unpredictable game for both teams on Sunday, and with both defences being pretty unconvincing, it could have a lot of goals for the fans to enjoy.
