Bacary Sagna believes Leny Yoro had a difficult start at Manchester United. He should not be judged too harshly, arguing that the defender arrived at a club that was already struggling.
Leny Yoro joined Manchester United with huge expectations, but his early months at Old Trafford have not been straightforward. Sagna feels the 19-year-old’s performances cannot be separated from the form of the team around him.
“He is another top player but he came to a sick team,” Sagna said while talking to Action Network. “When he joined, the team was sick.”
The former Manchester City defender pointed to Bruno Fernandes as an example of a player who has still managed to perform despite United’s problems.

Bacary Sagna believes it is particularly difficult for defenders to shine when the team is struggling, as weaknesses across the side can leave them exposed.
“But if the whole team is struggling and the team is sick, then there’s a higher chance you get sick too and in trouble,” he added. “You’re going to have times over the course of the season where it’s going to be tougher for you because you’re going to get exposed as a defender.”
Yoro’s potential is not something Sagna doubts. Instead, he feels the teenager needs Manchester United to improve collectively before supporters can properly judge what he is capable of.
The Frenchman even suggested Leny Yoro could have enjoyed a very different start had he joined a team already performing at a high level.
“He’s a nice prospect, an amazing player,” Sagna said.
