Manchester United treble winner Teddy Sheringham has placed the spotlight on Benjamin Sesko ahead of Sunday’s Premier League clash against Manchester City.
Benjamin Sesko has appeared in the Red Devils’ opening three Premier League matches of the season, but the Slovenian forward did not start in any of them.
The 23-year-old Slovenia international has been picking up important Manchester United first-team minutes from the bench after his phased return to action.
Sesko, who missed the pre-season summer tour due to a shin problem from the last campaign, made his first start for United in Thursday’s Champions League clash.

Teddy Sheringham wants to see Benjamin Sesko start against Man City in the Man Utd front four
Benjamin Sesko climbed off the bench and scored in Manchester United’s 2-2 draw with Everton last Sunday before he made an impact against Sabah in the 4-0 win.
The Slovenia striker netted before half-time in the Champions League match at Old Trafford before Michael Carrick withdrew him in the 64th minute on Thursday.
Speaking after United’s encounter with Sabah, Teddy Sheringham insisted that the Red Devils lack a “real focal point” in attack when Sesko is absent from the frontline.
The 60-year-old Man Utd treble winner added that Sesko’s presence makes a more fluid link-up with Bruno Fernandes, Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha in attack.
“But I don’t know what you do? Put other players around him,” Sheringham said on talkSPORT.
“You know, Bruno goes and joins in. You know, there was Mbeumo goes and joins in, Cunha joins in, but there’s no real focal point if Sesko doesn’t play.
“So, I would like to say that he’ll be playing [against Man City] and give Man United a good chance of scoring goals as well as not conceding.”

What Teddy Sheringham admires about Man Utd and Slovenia striker Benjamin Sesko
Sesko is now in his second season at Old Trafford after Ineos signed the former RB Salzburg striker from German side RB Leipzig in 2025.
The United star had a steady first campaign at the Red Devils and Sheringham admitted that Sesko is the complete package as a striker for United’s frontline.
“I like Sesko,” Sheringham said.
“I think he leads the line, brings other players into play and he can score goals. I think, you know, when you look at a centre-forward, that’s what you want from someone.
“I think it’s very hard. Back in the day, we used to have two centre-forwards. You used to work off each other. When it’s playing that lone role is such a difficult one to play.
“You know, [Didier] Drogba was probably the best at it. Samuel Eto’o had a way of playing it years ago. It’s very hard to score goals when you’re that lone player. And I would find it very tough to do it.”
Sesko has scored two times in United’s opening four matches across all competitions in the 2026-27 season ahead of Sunday’s Manchester City match at Old Trafford.
