Newcastle United have made a 'massive statement' by tying down Lewis Hall's future at the club and facing down Manchester United transfer interest in the England international over the summer.
That is the view of former Magpies captain Kevin Nolan who believes Hall has 'hit it off' with new Newcastle head coach Matthias Jaissle this season.
Hall put pen to paper on a new five-year contract at St James' Park on Friday morning, ending any lingering speculation over his future amid the Red Devils' transfer interest.
Newcastle always maintained the 22-year-old was not for sale and informed Manchester United of their stance when they made an enquiry over the former Chelsea defender's situation.

Hall has started all five matches under Jaissle, who said he was 'in love' with Hall's ability and potential at Newcastle during his latest press conference, and he has looked rejuvenated after a difficult end to last season under Eddie Howe.
Nolan, who was doing some commentary work during Newcastle's 2-2 draw with Bournemouth last weekend, saw that first hand at St James' Park and believes it is 'positive' that they have not only secured Hall's future, but backed Jaissle's desire for him to stay at the club.
"It was a real positive thing that came out of Newcastle, with the hierarchy making it clear they weren't allowing Lewis Hall to go," Nolan told the BettingLounge. "The club seemingly turned down any offers for him because they wanted him to stay. They believed in him, and I think Jaissle was adamant that he didn't want him to leave, so they backed the manager as well. That was really positive.

"When you look at it, he is not the type of player to shrink away or look like he wants to be elsewhere. He puffed his chest out, he wants to play and he seems to be really enjoying life under the manager.
"They seem to have hit it off, they were high-fiving after the Bournemouth game and sharing a hug. It was a massive statement from the Newcastle hierarchy to back the manager and keep Lewis at the club for another season."
Speaking on Thursday about Hall's impact so far this season, Jaissle said: "Without speaking about his contract, I can just say that I’m in love with what I’ve seen so far from him.
"It's an amazing player with huge potential still, and this makes me so happy to, hopefully, have him here for the next years in the long term. He’s fitting so good to to this identity, how we want to play football, and again, he's doing an excellent job."
