Manchester United star Kobbie Mainoo has heaped praise on manager Michael Carrick.
Mainoo appeared to be heading towards the exit door after former head coach Ruben Amorim overlooked him during the first half of the 2025-26 campaign.
However, his fortunes have changed dramatically since Carrick was handed the reins in January this year.
Mainoo has now publicly shown his admiration for the United legend.
He said: “I’ve loved it [working under Carrick]. So much help, especially him being such an experienced midfielder and winning so much with this club.
“Anything that he tells you or any instruction that he gives you is gold, really. So it’s been good to learn under him and play for him.”
Mainoo set to play crucial role vs Man City
United are preparing to welcome bitter rivals Manchester City to Old Trafford tomorrow in a huge Manchester derby.
Mainoo has already enjoyed some memorable moments against City, with his goal in the FA Cup final at Wembley remaining one of the standout highlights of his young career.
The Stockport-born midfielder knows this fixture means far more than simply three points.
Under Carrick, Mainoo has taken his game to another level, emerging as an increasingly influential figure in the United midfield.
The 21-year-old has started the campaign strongly, producing eye-catching displays against Ipswich Town and Sabah FK.
He has also developed physically and now looks extremely difficult to dispossess when he gets the ball at his feet.
His performances across the four games this season have also highlighted his improvement in playing long diagonal passes to catch opposition defences off guard.
City possess a formidable midfield, but an in-form Mainoo could give United a major advantage in the battle for control in the middle of the pitch.
