Arsenal star Martin Zubimendi is once again being linked with a move away from the club, with Real Madrid making a decision about pursuing the Spain international. Zubimendi was linked with a move away from the Gunners during the summer transfer window, but ended up remaining at the Emirates Stadium.
It was only 12 months ago that Arsenal signed Zubimendi in a deal from Real Sociedad, with the midfielder making 57 appearances during his first season in north London.
Zubimendi has been forced to settle for a place on the bench this season, though, with the 27-year-old making cameo appearances as a substitute in each of their opening three Premier League matches.
This was also the case for the Champions League win over Napoli and the Community Shield victory against Manchester City.
As a result, there has now been fresh speculation that a move away from Arsenal could happen for Zubimendi in the near future.
Real Madrid were linked with a move for Zubimendi in the summer, and there has now been a fresh update about the La Liga giant’s plans for the months ahead.
Spanish publication Sport have reported that Madrid are looking to enter the transfer market in January to sign a new midfielder, as they look to correct a “mistake” they made by not signing Rodri.
The former Manchester City star was a target for Madrid before he went on to complete a permanent move to Barcelona instead.

The report goes on to claim that Zubimendi has been identified by Real as an alternative to Rodri, with the Arsenal star potentially the subject of a “market opportunity” that the La Liga giants could take advantage of.
It has also been reported that Arsenal would look to recoup almost all of the €70million (£60million) investment they made when they signed Zubimendi, in the event that they sanction the Spain international’s exit.
Arsenal strengthened their midfield options in the summer with the arrival of Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle United, but it remains to be seen what impact this could have on Zubimendi’s future going forward.
