Michael Carrick and Enzo Maresca will go head-to-head on the touchline of the Manchester derby.
For the first time in 10 years, it will not be Pep Guardiola who leads out Manchester City to face Manchester United in the derby.
Guardiola left United’s rivals at the end of last season, with his former assistant Enzo Maresca taking charge at the Etihad Stadium.
United also have a change of staff now that Michael Carrick has been appointed permanently. The two did battle in the Championship, and now they will be pitted against each other in the Manchester derby.

Michael Carrick has already beaten Enzo Maresca twice
Both Carrick and Maresca gained managerial experience in the Championship in charge of Middlesbrough and Leicester City respectively.
In the 2023/24 season, Maresca led Leicester back to the Premier League by winning the Championship, but Carrick’s Boro side were a bit of an achilles heel in that campaign.
In their two league matches, Carrick came out on top in both.
Middlesbrough 1-0 Leicester City (Nov 11, 2023)
Leicester City 1-2 Middlesbrough (Feb 17, 2024)
Carrick outwitted Maresca’s Leicester side at home, keeping a clean sheet in the process, and then also claimed three points at the King Power Stadium.

Enzo Maresca’s record against Man United
Sunday will be the first time that Maresca faces Carrick’s United, but not the first time he has faced the Red Devils.
In fact, Maresca has faced United three times in his career, winning only once.
