Manchester United Women were comprehensively beaten **5-0 by Chelsea** as Eva Olid’s difficult start to the Women’s Super League season continued.
Chelsea had **63% possession and 25 shots**, with 11 efforts on target. United managed just two attempts across the entire game.
Sjoeke Nüsken and Keira Walsh struck before half-time before Lauren James, Ellie Carpenter and Lucy Bronze completed the rout after the break.
Here are the ReadManUtd player ratings.
**Phallon Tullis-Joyce – 5.5**
Conceding five will never look good, but the goalkeeper prevented the scoreline becoming even worse. Chelsea recorded 11 shots on target, leaving Tullis-Joyce exposed repeatedly.
**Maya Le Tissier – 4.5**
A brutal afternoon for the captain. Chelsea regularly found space around United’s defensive line and Le Tissier could not organise the resistance required.
**Hanna Lundkvist – 4.5**
Brought into the side after the opening defeat but struggled against Chelsea’s movement and pressure. Offered little opportunity to advance.
**Dominique Janssen – 4.5**
Unable to establish any control as Chelsea repeatedly played through United. The visitors’ constant movement made the defensive task increasingly difficult.
**Ana Vitória Medina – 4**
Chelsea created far too many opportunities through and around United’s back line. Part of a defensive unit that never found an answer.
**Julia Zigiotti Olme – 4**
Chelsea completely controlled midfield. Zigiotti Olme spent most of the afternoon chasing possession rather than dictating play.
**Hinata Miyazawa – 4.5**
Worked hard but could not influence proceedings. Chelsea’s midfield pairing dictated the tempo and prevented United establishing sustained possession.
**Ella Toone – 4.5**
Almost completely starved of useful possession. United needed their creative players to provide an outlet but barely escaped their own half for long periods.
**Jess Park – 4**
Another difficult afternoon against her former club’s title rivals. Chelsea’s pressure gave Park little room to turn or carry the ball forward.
**Monica Jusu Bah – 5**
Handed her first United start after an encouraging debut against London City. There were occasional glimpses of her direct running, but the wider performance gave her almost nothing to work with.
**Elisabeth Terland – 4**
Isolated throughout. United produced just two shots as a team, illustrating how little service reached their centre-forward. Chelsea’s defence had a comfortable afternoon.
There was no obvious United standout.
Tullis-Joyce receives the highest mark largely because she was forced into action repeatedly despite conceding five.
Chelsea’s superiority was comprehensive. The visitors had 25 attempts compared with United’s two and controlled almost two-thirds of possession.
United had already shown defensive vulnerabilities in their [2-1 opening-day defeat against London City](https://readmanutd.com/2026/09/04/london-city-2-1-man-utd-women-awujo-goal-comes-too-late-in-wsl-opener/?utm_source=chatgpt.com).
ReadManUtd’s [player ratings from that game](https://readmanutd.com/2026/09/04/man-utd-women-player-ratings-vs-london-city-tullis-joyce-and-awujo-impress/?utm_source=chatgpt.com) highlighted Simi Awujo as one of the few positives.
This time there was little encouragement to take.
Chelsea’s pressing and movement overwhelmed United throughout, with the visitors barely allowing Olid’s side to escape their own half for long spells.
Two games into the new WSL season, United remain pointless and have already conceded **seven goals**.
That represents a significant early challenge for Olid.
