Manchester United suffered a bitter 1-0 defeat to Manchester City at Old Trafford in the Premier League today.
The Manchester derby burst into life from the opening whistle, with both sides struggling to maintain their composure in a frantic start.
Phil Foden was shown a straight red card in the 23rd minute after kicking out at Bruno Fernandes, leaving City down to 10 men.
Despite their numerical disadvantage, Erling Haaland put City ahead just after the hour mark in a highly controversial fashion.
The goal was initially ruled out for offside, but VAR intervened and overturned the decision after determining that Haaland had remained onside.
Enzo Fernandez appeared to be in an offside position and was involved in the build-up, yet VAR surprisingly allowed the goal to stand.
Carrick threw Benjamin Sesko and Joshua Zirkzee into the action from the bench, but United had already been rattled and struggled to find their way back into the contest.
The defeat leaves the Red Devils languishing in 13th place, with just three points from their opening four Premier League games.
