A statement has been issued from the referees admitting fault for Manchester City’s goal against Manchester United.
The referee’s governing body has issued a statement admitting fault for Manchester City’s goal at Old Trafford.
Enzo Fernandez was interfering with play from an offside decision – yet this was not accounted for by VAR.
Now a full acknowledgement of fault has been accepted by the referee’s governing body.
Pro Ref, formerly known as PGMO, has stated they have contact Manchester United to accept fault.
The Pro Ref spokesperson said: “Following the incident in the 60th minute of Sunday’s Premier League fixture between Manchester United and Manchester City at Old Trafford, we can provide clarification regarding Erling Haaland’s awarded goal.
“The on-field decision was offside against Erling Haaland – that was checked by VAR and he was found to be in an onside position.
“In the same attack, it was established that Enzo Fernandez did not play the ball and therefore that makes any offside offence subjective, however, on this occasion, the VAR did not recognise the likely impact of his position and should have recommended an on-field review.
“Contact has been made with Manchester United this evening to acknowledge what we deem is an error of judgement. A review of the incident will take place.”
Former referee Mark Clattenburg told us earlier that the goal should not have been permitted to stand.
Apology no use to United
An apology is absolutely no use to Manchester United at this time. The game has been played, and it has been lost.
City took all three points, with Haaland’s goal enough to separate the two teams.
United cannot hide totally behind the incident.
The goal came after United failed to clear the ball well enough, with City taking advantage to create an opportunity.
United also failed to create enough chances, even with City down to 10 men due to an earlier incident.
But the conversation is being dominated by the blown call and quick admission of error.
It is a total shambles from the officials.
