Phil Foden only played 23 minutes of the Manchester derby yet found it fitting to taunt fans on his way out of the stadium.
Manchester United’s 1-0 defeat to Manchester City was overshadowed by some very controversial refereeing.
The first incident was Phil Foden’s red card in the first half when he lashed out at Bruno Fernandes. But it was United who were left seething at full-time after VAR overturned the on-pitch offside call for Erling Haaland’s goal.
Since then, ProRef have apologised to United for the decision, admitting their mistake. As if United fans weren’t already frustrated, Foden rubbed salt in their wounds as he departed Old Trafford.

Phil Foden chooses to taunt Man United fans
A video posted by Fabrizio Romano on Instagram showed Foden leaving Old Trafford and boarding the Manchester City bus.
But on his walk from the stadium to the bus, Foden decided to hold up his hands and display a 1-0 scoreline with his fingers to the frustrated United fans.
United fans naturally reacted and booed Foden on his way out of the stadium, and it only adds to the frustration that he has been able to have the last laugh at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils were the better side at Old Trafford but failed to make their numerical advantage count after Foden’s red card.
But to be robbed of three points by an incorrect VAR call is an injustice that will take some time to recover from.

Thankfully for Michael Carrick and United, they have another game right around the corner.
United return to action on Wednesday evening against Brighton in the Carabao Cup. A chance for the players to set things right and get the 2026/27 season back on track.
