As per the latest transfer news, Man United are leading the chase for Juventus defender Pierre Kalulu, ahead of rivals Liverpool and Tottenham. The Red Devils are eyeing him as a key piece in a defensive rebuild planned for next summer.

United have quietly turned their attention to strengthening the back line after two summers spent fixing their attack and midfield. As reported by TEAMtalk, Kalulu is attracting interest from four clubs across the Premier League and Serie A, with United, Liverpool, Tottenham and Aston Villa all keen on a deal. Of that group, United are said to be pushing hardest to get it done. Scouts from Old Trafford have watched the Frenchman on several occasions this season.
Juventus value their defender at around €45-50 million.The Turin club have already signalled they see him as central to their plans beyond this season. That stance could complicate any January or summer approach from United.

Why Kalulu fits United’s defensive plans
Kalulu has built his reputation as a natural centre-back. He has actually featured at right-back in every Juventus match so far this season. That flexibility is a big part of his appeal, since it allows a manager to use one player in two different roles. His comfort on the ball also stands out, since Serie A sides are often more patient in possession than Premier League teams, and defenders there are pressed less aggressively out from the back. United are also monitoring Stuttgart defender Finn Jeltsch. His Transfermarkt value currently stands at €35 million, though his rapid rise means that figure could climb further if his form continues. Stuttgart are keen to keep him beyond January, though a move in 2027 has not been ruled out. Liverpool, Arsenal and Bayern Munich are also understood to have him firmly on their radar. United are reportedly ready to spend close to £500 million on new defenders in total. Pierre Kalulu looks like just the first piece in a much larger rebuild.
Whichever of Kalulu or Jeltsch United end up prioritising, the pattern is clear, INEOS want ball-playing defenders who can build attacks from deep, not just stoppers who defend the box. United’s defensive rebuild will likely unfold across two windows rather than one, given the number of positions still needing cover. A settled back line has been missing at Old Trafford for several seasons now, and this round of transfer activity marks United’s most direct attempt yet to fix that gap.
