Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has been discussing what the club need to challenge for titles again - including the prospects of goalkeeper Senne Lammens

Paul Scholes believes only time will tell whether or Senne Lammens is the 'top-class' goalkeeper Manchester United need to become Premier League champions once again.
The Red Devils have not won the domestic crown since the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson stepped down as manager back in 2013, with Michael Carrick now at the helm after guiding the club back into the Champions League following a chastening period.
Carrick's remit after landing the job full-time in the summer is to build on the third-placed finish United achieved last season, though Arsenal and Manchester City more likely to fight it out for the title this time around.
United reshaped their midfield in the summer transfer window in a bid to kick on, though more work needs to be done. Scholes, a treble winner with United back in 1999, is of the opinion that United will attempt to 'sort out' their defence next year as part of the next phase of their rebuild.
Lammens has proved himself to be an upgrade on Andre Onana in goal since joining last summer, but Scholes reckons the jury is still out on whether the Belgian is up to the task of starring for a team with genuine title aspirations.
“I think they’re doing it in sections, that’s what it looks like,” Scholes said on The Good, The Bad and The Football.
“They sorted the forwards out last year and the forwards look alight. They still probably need a top class centre-forward, I’m not sure how much confidence they have in Sesko, although I think he has got better.
“It looks like they did the midfield this year and it feels like the defence will probably come next year. At this moment in time, defensively, they’re always going to concede goals in that team.

“What team have you seen win the Premier League without a top class goalkeeper? Lammens might be that, I don’t know, I think the jury’s probably still out on that. Then you build from the back four.
“The way Arsenal started three or four years ago Defensively they have been absolutely brilliant. You need a top class goalkeeper. You think of Liverpool’s team with Alisson, City’s teams, Raya at Arsenal. Man United with Peter Schmeichel and Edwin van der Sar.
“They’ve all got brilliant, brilliant goalkeepers. You start from the back, of course you do.”
