Super Eagles winger Azeez faces late fitness test ahead of Brighton's trip to Man Utd
Femi Azeez faces a late fitness check before Brighton & Hove Albion finalise their travelling squad for Wednesday's Carabao Cup third round tie against Manchester United at Old Trafford.
The 2026 Unity Cup star joined the Seagulls on transfer deadline day earlier this month, signing a four-year contract until June 30, 2030, in a £15 million deal that made him Millwall's record sale.
Brighton completed the signing of the former Reading winger despite the fact that he was still recovering from a minor injury sustained on the opening day of the Championship season.
The muscle problem ruled Azeez out of three consecutive matches for Millwall before he joined Brighton.
He has also been unavailable for selection in the Seagulls' last two Premier League games since arriving at the Amex Stadium.
Providing a squad update at Tuesday's pre-match press conference, Brighton boss Fabian Hürzeler confirmed that Azeez will be assessed in training before a decision is made on whether he will travel with the squad to face Manchester United.
Nigeria manager Eric Chelle will also be monitoring Azeez’s fitness ahead of naming his squad for the upcoming 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Madagascar and Guinea-Bissau, as well as the glamour friendly against Russia.
Azeez featuring for Nigeria in either of the competitive matches this month would cap-tie him to the three-time African champions.
The attacker, who is also eligible to represent Spain and England, is yet to make his competitive debut for the Super Eagles.
