It's an overused cliche to suggest that it can be difficult playing against 10 men, but for Manchester United, the sight of Phil Foden being sent off in the 199th derby might not have been the cause for celebration that Old Trafford made it look.
It gave City the licence to do what United don't like, just as Blues boss Enzo Maresca said after the game. With their side down to 10, they denied Michael Carrick's team the space they crave, making attacking more difficult.
United have had joy under Carrick against teams who have an onus to attack them, and therefore risk leaving space to break into. As much as the club's former midfielder is trying to move to a more controlled style, their biggest threat remains on the break.
