Leeds United continued their unbeaten start to the Premier League campaign by utterly dismantling Newcastle under the lights at Elland Road.
The 4-1 win takes us up to third in the Premier League table. I know it’s early days, but it hasn’t stopped me from enjoying typing that fact out!
Virtually every Leeds player was incredible last night. Jayden Bogle was particularly impressive last night, whilst Tarik Muharemovic also had a game to remember.
Jamie Carragher was full of praise for Dominic Calvert-Lewin on Sky Sports. Even though the striker only scored one goal and not two, it did not take away from his spectacular performance.
In the aftermath of the game, Michael Owen made a surprising admission regarding our talisman.
Michael Owen thinks Manchester United should’ve signed Dominic Calvert-Lewin
This season, Calvert-Lewin already has three goals and one very strange assist to his name this season: his header that ricocheted off Bogle last night.
Last season, he scored 15 goals in all competitions whilst also recording one assist too. Since his move to West Yorkshire, Calvert-Lewin has been incredible, and his injury troubles thankfully look to be a thing of the past.
Calvert-Lewin’s form since his move to Leeds United has left former Manchester United, Liverpool and Newcastle striker Owen surprised that somebody else did not take that risk to sign him last year.
Whilst on punditry duties for Premier League Productions, Owen said, “He has always struggled with injuries, but when he is fit, he is a hard man to handle.
“And with the lack of centre-forwards that has been around in recent years, I thought one of the bigger teams might have just taken a chance and had him as the backup.
“Maybe even a Manchester United. One or two sniffed around him, but Leeds put the money where their mouth was and got him, and he has repaid them.
“They must be doing something to keep him fit, and he is playing virtually every game, and he has never done it.”

Hindsight is a wonderful thing. Of course, with Calvert-Lewin back in and amongst the goals now, it looks like it’s a no-brainer that maybe a more established Premier League team should’ve signed him.
However, we can’t forget that we did take a big gamble on the England international.
Prior to signing for Leeds, he had scored just 17 Premier League goals in his last four campaigns combined. We all know what the striker can do when his playing regularly. It’s a matter of whether we can keep him fit and help get Calvert-Lewin back to his best. It’s fair to say we have.
The player also deserves tremendous credit for the career resurrection he has undergone at Elland Road, but when not many teams in the Premier League were, Leeds were willing to take the risk of signing Calvert-Lewin on a free last year.
The 49ers deserve all the credit in the world for this. Smart signings like these are what will continue to propel us up the Premier League.
