Manchester United must explore a deal for Club Brugge left-back Joaquin Seys when the transfer window reopens in January.
The Red Devils have had a tough start to the Premier League season and have picked up just four points from as many games.
The club have had plenty of defensive concerns early on, and the left-back department in particular remains a worry.
Luke Shaw has not been at his best, and he has also missed the last two matches due to fitness issues.
Patrick Dorgu started at left-back against Sabah and Manchester City, and he had a forgettable outing against the latter.
The Dane was guilty of gifted possession in the lead-up to Erling Haaland’s controversial winner.
Dorgu made another error as he played Haaland onside trying to intercept Josko Gvardiol’s cross.
It is quite clear that Dorgu is most comfortable as a winger, and United need to find a new competitor to Shaw in January.
Brugge’s Seys was on United’s radar over the summer, but the Belgian champions decided against sanctioning his exit.
The 21-year-old has since been in fine form for Brugge and recently starred in a 3-1 win over Royal Antwerp in the Pro League.
Seys won 100 percent of his ground duels (5/5) against Antwerp with six recoveries. He completed 43 passes with a couple of clearances.
The Belgian ace capped his performance with an assist. Seys looks an ideal left-back for United, given he is good defensively and offensively.
It was previously claimed that Brugge could sell him for £30 million before they decided to keep him.
Brugge president Bart Verhaeghe recently confirmed the club’s plan to stick with Nicolo Tresoldi and Seys until the end of the season.
However, we believe United should test their resolve in January even if it means paying a higher premium fee to secure Seys’ services.
With Shaw’s injury record and Dorgu’s inconsistency as a left-back, the club desperately need to find a fresh solution this winter.
