Bayern Munich reportedly want Nick Woltemade to succeed Harry Kane should he leave at the end of the season.
As it stands, the England captain’s contract is set to expire next summer. Kane has expressed his desire to stay at the Bundesliga giants and both parties are working on an extension.
Should talks break down, German reports claim Bayern will pivot to Newcastle United outcast Woltemade. They have long-term interest in the 24-year-old that predates his club-record switch to St James’ Park last year.
Several high-profile figures at the Allianz Arena fired swipes at the Magpies for paying £64million to Stuttgart. That did little to stop the wave of speculation linking Woltemade with a Bayern move in 2025-26.
Nick Woltemade at Juventus
An underwhelming debut campaign on Tyneside resulted in Woltemade being allowed to join Juventus on loan. He has been restricted to two substitute appearances so far and received criticism after missing a big chance in the 3-2 defeat to Sassuolo at the weekend.
Juve paid a straight loan fee of £3.5million for the season - with no obligation to buy. This allows Newcastle to determine his price tag for an eventual sale depending on his form in Turin.
Harry Kane domino piece
As mentioned, Bayern’s interest in Woltemade is long-held and they would undoubtedly be among those linked should he move on permanently next year. Kane turns 34 at the end of the campaign and Die Roten are wary of needing a youthful successor.
Like Kane, Woltemade is not blessed with blistering pace and his link-up play - while still raw - draws similarities. The Toon loanee lacks the ruthless streak in front of goal but his style is better suited to German football.
For now, Woltemade is solely focused on delivering a successful season at Juventus. Newcastle have essentially kicked the can down the road - with his loan exit freeing up space to sign Matias Fernandez-Pardo.
German expert makes Nick Woltemade prediction
Speaking to talkSPORT, German football expert Andy Brassell said: "I still think Woltemade will end up at Bayern at some point. They were convinced he would go there before Newcastle and he's had a difficult start at Juventus as well... quite a messy situation.
"They're trying to reform the front part of their team and they've ended up with this front pairing of him and Randal Kolo Muani. They were really out of nick in the back end of last season. It's the blind guiding the blind.
"So it is difficult as they're two good players who are trying to recover form. I think Bayern will be looking at that and thinking, 'We could get this guy we really wanted for maybe pennies on the pound at some point in the future."
