Anthony Martial looks set to find a new club three months after his contract at CF Monterrey was mutually terminated.
After leaving Manchester United as a free agent in June 2024, Anthony Martial’s career has taken him to Greece and Mexico. AEK Athens signed the French forward, but he eventually fell out of favour and joined Liga MX side CF Monterrey.
Monterrey and Martial mutually agreed to go their separate ways earlier this year. Since then, the former United striker has been looking for a new club, despite fears over his injury record and lack of goalscoring output in recent seasons.
Now, it seems Martial is destined to return to Spain, where he previously spent six months on loan at Sevilla.

Malaga in talks to sign former Man Utd forward Anthony Martial
While nothing is set in stone yet, Martial is reportedly making progress in his search to find a new club to revive his career.
The 30-year-old scored just one goal in 20 appearances for Monterrey, but that has not prevented clubs from considering the forward as a free transfer. In fact, he’s even turned down an offer that would have been financially rewarding, which shows he is still interested in playing football at the highest level possible.
According to FootMercato, Martial is closing in on a move to La Liga outfit Malaga after rejecting a contract proposal from Libyan outfit Al-Ittihad Tripoli worth £ 8.5 million (€10m).
That suggests it might not be too long before we see Martial back on our screens and playing in Europe. The report adds that he could sign paperwork to complete his move to Malaga in the coming days.
Malaga are currently 18th in La Liga and are winless after five matches. Three of those results ended in draws, and they’re seemingly looking at Martial to bring goals to a side that has scored two and conceded eight in La Liga this season.

Anthony Martial’s record at Sevilla
Martial joined Sevilla on a six-month loan deal from United in January 2022. It came after Ralf Rangnick confirmed that the former Monaco starlet requested to leave to secure regular game time.
During his time in Spain, Martial scored just one goal – in the Europa League – but failed to do so in 9 La Liga appearances.
As a result, Sevilla decided not to sign Martial on a permanent deal. He returned to Old Trafford, but injuries meant his game time would remain limited.
Martial will be aiming to have a greater impact at Malaga than he did at Sevilla, if he completes his move as reported.
