“I Don’t Think He’s Comfortable” – Andy Cole Tells Michael Carrick He Is Playing Man Utd Star Out Of Position
Man Utd legend Andy Cole thinks head coach Michael Carrick is not getting the most out of Matheus Cunha by deploying him as a striker.
The Brazilian has started all 4 Premier League fixtures through the middle, but speaking to Unibet Casino, Cole said Cunha needs to be given more freedom:
“I wouldn’t put him down as a number 9. I think Cunha is a free spirit. He can come off the wide areas; you can play him behind. I really do like him. He had a good season last season.”

“When you play for Manchester United, it’s about being repetitive. He’s just got to continue that form from last season into this season. I personally would never judge Cunha as a number 9 because I don’t think he’s comfortable as a number 9. He’s just not an out-and-out striker.”
“He’s a player that can play in numerous positions up front. But I do like him. At the moment, it’s just a case of he’s come back a little bit late from the World Cup as well, so he’s still getting up to speed and finding his best position.”
Cunha’s only goal came when starting out wide
The 27-year-old has 2 assists to his name in the Premier League, but he has yet to find the back of the net domestically.
Cunha’s 1st (and currently only) goal this campaign came against Sabah in the Champions League, a match in which Carrick started him on the left wing, with Benjamin Sesko leading the line.
Rashford is causing a selection headache for Man Utd
The form of Marcus Rashford has definitely taken many by surprise. The 28-year-old has looked sharp off the left wing since his return to the club.
Of course, his selection has a knock-on effect in terms of other players. Carrick is seemingly happy to move Cunha into a central position in order to accommodate Rashford, whilst being happy to bench Sesko.
In addition to Cole’s comments on Cunha, he also praised Sesko as having a “good knack for scoring goals”. The Slovenian has scored 2 goals despite starting just once this season.
