Manchester United will look to move on from their disappointing Manchester derby defeat when they return to action against Brighton & Hove Albion in the EFL Cup on Wednesday.
The Reds were beaten 1-0 by Manchester City at Old Trafford on Sunday, despite City playing more than an hour with 10 men following Phil Foden’s early red card. It was United’s second defeat in their opening four Premier League matches.
Manchester United now begin their EFL Cup campaign at home, with Brighton visiting Old Trafford. The Seagulls knocked United out of the FA Cup in the third round last season, giving the hosts another reason to respond.
Brighton have started the league season strongly, sitting fifth after four matches with two wins and just one defeat. They have also scored 13 goals, the most in the Premier League so far.
Fabian Hurzeler expects a strong response from United
Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler expects United to come out with plenty of determination following their derby loss.
“We expect a strong Manchester United, we expect a team that definitely wants to react after their defeat,” Hurzeler said as quoted by Metro.
“I think every team wants to react after a loss. Therefore, I think that’s a big challenge for us, that we’re ready for this.”
However, Hurzeler insists Brighton will concentrate on their own approach rather than simply worrying about United’s response.
“For me, it’s very important that we show the belief that we go there to win this game.”
He added that Brighton must stick to their identity and get the small details right.
“It’s important we show our style of play, our qualities, that we stick to our principles. I think that’s the main bit, that we have to have the right mindset.”
