Tyrell Malacia has taken a step forward in his search for a new club after leaving Manchester United.
After a long wait, Tyrell Malacia‘s spell as a free agent could be coming to an end.
Malacia has begun training with MLS side FC Cincinnati on a trial basis with a view to earning a contract.
The club have until the MLS Roster Freeze Date on October 9 to sign Malacia. The deadline is to prevent teams adding players at the final stage of the season and the playoffs.
Malacia has been a free agent since Manchester United released him on June 30.
His teammate Casemiro was also released and has signed with MLS side Inter Miami, who play in the same Conference as FC Cincinnati. Another player released, Jadon Sancho, remains a free agent.
Former Netherlands international Malacia signed for Manchester United in 2022 and had a successful first season at the club, before his spell was wrecked by injuries.
A club statement read: “FC Cincinnati has a good relationship with Malacia’s agent; training with the team is an opportunity for both parties to see if they are a good fit.”
The left-back stated back in July that he feels fitter than ever and was waiting for the right opportunity. However, his wait has likely taken longer than expected.

United failed to find buyer for Malacia last year
Manchester United were criticised for failing to find a buyer for Tyrell Malacia last summer, but there was little market due to his injury issues.
His long wait to find a club as a free agent highlighted that United were up against it.
Malacia fulfilled a backup role for United last season, making only three substitute appearances. His lack of game time over the past year has not helped his case.
We wish him well in restarting his career. During the 2022/23 season Malacia showed promising signs, with his performance in the Manchester derby a real highlight.
