Manchester United have no new injury concerns ahead of their opening cup game of the season.
Luke Shaw missed both the Sabah FK Champions League fixture last week as well as the Manchester Derby on Sunday. Although there were suggestions from United boss Michael Carrick that Shaw’s absence was simply managing minutes, it appears that the left-back may be suffering a more concerning injury than first thought.
Elsewhere, Matthijs de Ligt’s return is looking positive as he is now training but will still miss the EFL Cup game. Amad and Manuel Ugarte won’t be available.
New signing Carlos Baleba will not be fit to face his old club due to an ankle injury. Carrick commented on the injury, stating, “He’ll be back in and around the group at some point over the next week or so, so that means after internationals, he should be in good shape.”
One man that we predicted would feature, JJ Gabriel, will certainly not play a part after he publicly requested to leave the club yesterday.
Brighton Team News
Brighton have been struck with plenty of injuries already this season, and these will likely impact Fabian Hurzele’s team. Yankuba Minteh, Kaoru Mitoma, Mats Wieffer, Stefanos Tzimas, Evan Ferguson and Georginio Rutter are all out injured.
Summer signing Femi Azeez will also miss the trip to Old Trafford. Arguably the biggest miss for Brighton is versatile midfielder Jack Hinshelwood, who will be out for a prolonged period of time.
We do know, however, that Jason Steele will start in this evening’s Manchester United vs Brighton fixture.

Expect Manchester United vs Brighton to be a cagey game, as it’s clear that if an opponent plays a low block against Manchester United, they struggle to break them down. If a team attacks Carrick’s men, they can hit them on the break with great effect.
Carrick can’t afford to make too many changes, so a strong outfit is expected. Brighton will also be looking ahead to the weekend when they clash with champions Arsenal, so expect some changes to their team.
With Carrick under pressure already and United coming off a derby loss, expect a reaction from United.
