Bruno Fernandes was brought on to try and salvage Manchester United’s worrying collapse against Brighton.
Michael Carrick chose to rotate his Manchester United side for the Carabao Cup 3-2 defeat to Brighton, and it seemed to be going smoothly when the Red Devils took a 2-0 lead.
Captain Bruno Fernandes was named as a substitute and the plan was likely to give him a rest inbetween Premier League matches. But when United started to collapse, Carrick turned to the Portuguese playmaker.
Fernandes is in talks for a new contract, but so far, his demands are failing to be met.

Man United are failing Bruno Fernandes
Currently, Fernandes’ contract is set to expire in 2027, meaning this is his final season at the club on paper.
At the end of last season, Fernandes demanded an ambitious transfer window in order to stay put at United. He has already turned down several lucrative deals from Saudi Arabia in a show of loyalty.
It has been made incredibly clear that Fernandes wants to win trophies. Yet, United’s window was lacklustre and the Red Devils have crashed out of the Carabao Cup at the first hurdle. Again.
Fernandes’ patience must be running thin, and no one would blame him from walking away from contract negotiations at this stage.
United look to have set sail on another doomed voyage, and Fernandes is a passenger. At 32 years old, time at the top level is precious.
Bruno Fernandes’ successor is also leaving
It is a matter of when Fernandes leaves United, not if. It is up to Ineos to plan for his departure.
Finding a successor to Fernandes is the impossible job for United’s boardroom, yet it seemed they had a clever solution in JJ Gabriel.
Gabriel was making huge strides in United’s academy, outlining himself as one of the best young talents in world football. As a creative forward, it seemed he was the perfect prodigy to take over from Fernandes.

But Gabriel has requested to leave United this week. The plan was to make him United’s youngest ever player by debuting against Brighton, and now it seems his time at Carrington is coming to an abrupt end.
United’s succession plan is ruined.
