Trailing 2-0 inside ten minutes at **Old Trafford** after **Shea Lacey’s** excellent opener and **Mason Mount’s** quick second, most sides would have folded.
Brighton did the opposite. They stuck to their principles, increased their intensity, and systematically dismantled United’s shape. By half-time **Charalampos Kostoulas** had pulled one back. In the second - half **Pascal Groß** equalised and **Maxim De Cuyper** completed a remarkable comeback with the winner.
What made the performance particularly impressive was the context. **Fabian Hürzeler** made six changes to the starting line-up, handing first starts to several summer signings and giving minutes to players who had not been regulars. The fact that a heavily rotated Brighton side could recover from two goals down and still dominate large stretches of the game against Manchester United at Old Trafford says a great deal about the squad’s depth and the culture at the club.

Hürzeler later spoke about the importance of “_doing the basic things right.”_
Brighton did exactly that: they pressed with purpose, moved the ball cleanly through midfield, exploited the spaces United left between the lines, and remained clinical when chances arrived. Their recent record at this ground is no accident. They have now won five of their last six visits to Old Trafford, consistently punishing the same structural and mental weaknesses in United’s play.
The result keeps Brighton’s multi-competition ambitions alive and underlines that they have the quality and resilience required to chase a first major trophy. For United, it was another reminder of unresolved problems. For Brighton, it was further proof that their project is working.
