Hull City manager Sergej Jakirovic has revealed his dream of managing Manchester United during an exclusive interview with RTL Dana.
Jakirovic was appointed by the Tigers in the summer of 2025 after they avoided relegation from the Championship on goal difference to Luton Town.
The focus was on surviving in the second tier, but Jakirovic managed to exceed expectations by guiding Hull back to the top-flight after nine years.
The Yorkshire outfit have since made a brilliant start to the season with eight points in four matches and picked up a sublime win over United in the curtain-raiser.
Speaking to RTL Dana, Jakirovic was asked whether he would consider a return to Dinamo Zagreb if an opportunity arises in the coming years.
In response, the 49-year-old said that he is looking to join the biggest clubs and highlighted that United would be a possible dream destination for him.
He said: “Me? So where I am. I am looking towards Manchester United. Never say never, but I can say this – I would be home. I worked there, I was good there.
“That is the position, I don’t hold anything against anyone. I am looking more towards getting to the biggest clubs because I think you should dream.”
Jakirovic gave his interview to RTL Dana prior to United’s 3-2 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion in the Carabao Cup third round at Old Trafford last night.
The Bosnian obviously has his sights on moving to the next level in his managerial career, and we admire his confidence about managing United in the future.
United have no plans to consider him for the head coach role, but the hierarchy could contemplate a change if Michael Carrick does not turn the club’s fortunes around.
The Red Devils have picked up only four points from as many league games this campaign and recently bowed out of the Carabao Cup after a 3-2 loss from two goals up.
The pressure is undoubtedly on Carrick at the moment. Anything less than an away league win against Fulham on Sunday could lead to immense speculation over his future.
Jakirovic will not be in contention for the position (with respect), but United could start considering high-profile options if United fail to return to winning ways this weekend.
