“I’m Looking Towards Manchester United” – Premier League Manager Says He’s Willing To Replace Carrick
Hull City head coach Sergej Jakirovic says he has his sights set on managing Man Utd in the future.
The Bosnian was being interviewed by Croatian outlet RTL Dana (quotes translated by Sport Witness) when he was asked if he could return to Dinamo Zagreb (a team he has managed before), and he said:
“Me?! Where am I? I’m looking towards Manchester United, haha! Never say never, I would be at home in that case; I had a good time at Dinamo.”
“I don’t hold anything against anyone; some people are revealed who pretended to be good to you… But I’m looking to reach the biggest clubs here.”
Jakirovic has done an excellent job at Hull
The Tigers had just survived relegation to League One on goal difference when the 49-year-old was appointed last year.
Jakirovic won promotion to the Premier League via the playoffs in his first season in charge, and his team are still unbeaten after 4 games, having drawn 2-2 against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge last weekend.
Who are the frontrunners if Man Utd decide to sack Carrick?
Jakirovic is unlikely to be in the running if the United hot seat does become available, but current head coach Michael Carrick is under pressure.
If the Red Devils fail to beat Fulham on Sunday, his team would have won just 1 of their first 5 league games, having also been knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Brighton.
Bookmakers are already taking bets on who could replace Carrick in the dugout. At the moment, former Newcastle boss Eddie Howe is the favourite to take the job, with the likes of current England manager Thomas Tuchel, former Germany coach Julian Nagelsmann and ex-Chelsea coach Antonio Conte among the other early contenders.
