AC Milan owner Gerry Cardinale is set to hold an 'internal meeting' with Ruben Amorim on Thursday following their dismal 2-0 defeat to Benfica in the Europa League.
Amorim was appointed as Milan's new head coach in the summer and has made an unbeaten start to life in Serie A, winning two and drawing two of his opening four league matches.
But, after beating Torino and Venezia, Cardinale has been left disappointed with Milan's performances across their last three games, having drawn 1-1 at Juventus and 2-2 at Lazio, before losing against Benfica at San Siro.
Now, according to reports in Milan, Cardinale has scheduled crisis talks with Amorim to discuss their start to the season and recent performances.
Cardinale and Amorim, as well as with chief executive officer Massimo Calvelli, are poised to sit down in the coming hours to assess the difficult period the team are going through.
US businessman Cardinale, who brought Milan through his investment firm RedBird Capital Partners back in 2022, is expected to ask Amorim to account for the long list of flaws that he himself set out on Wednesday in the post-Benfica press conference, as well as for the statement he made about the squad to Sky Italy.
Calciomercato.com add that, despite Cardinale and Calvelli's concerns, Amorim still has the full support of the Milan board and they have no plans of making a change in the immediate future.
Milan were fortunate to pick up a point against Juventus, having registered just THREE shots with one on target across the entire game. In contrast, Juve had 18 shots with five of them on target.
They then went to Lazio and had to come from 2-0 down to pick up a point at Stadio Olimpico. Although Milan were much more threatening on this occasion, they still didn't do enough to win the match.

Wednesday's defeat to Benfica was the most concerning of the three-match winless run, as Milan failed to score a goal for the first time this season and didn't create a single big chance.
They were booed off by the Milan supporters after the game and Amorim tried to explain his side's issues post-match, admitting that they are not creating enough opportunities to score.
"This conversation of my idea is to play football," Amorim said. "To do that, we need to play the ball, but we are creating more problems for ourselves when we have the ball than when the opponent has it.
"We are trying to create the routines to have more possession in the box, we had some in the second half, but we are not creating, we lack creativity near the box.
"In the first half, when we conceded the goal, we totally lost control of what we were meant to be doing, we wanted to do it all so fast and without quality. If we look at the game, when we have the ball is when we need to be prepared for the danger, because we lose it dangerous situations for our goal."
Next up for Amorim and Milan is a crucial home game against Lecce, who have made a mixed start to the season having won two and drawn two of their first four matches, on Sunday.
