Manchester United transfer target Louis Page has broken his silence on the club’s interest in him over the summer window. The Leicester City midfielder was linked with a move to Old Trafford up until the last couple of hours of deadline day.
A move for the 18-year-old collapsed with United unable to agree a fee with the Foxes. As reported by the Manchester Evening News, United remain interested in Page, with communication lines remaining open with Leicester ahead of the January window.
The club are however expected to face competition from Arsenal, with Leicester demanding a fee more than the £10 million, plus at least £2.5 million in add-ons - a fee they received from Manchester City for Jeremy Monga. Any deal is likely to see the youngster remain with the League One side until the end of the season.
The teenager has his full concentration on the season ahead, and has no doubt over how working with Leicester manager Russell Martin will benefit him both now and in the future.
Speaking about the transfer talk over the summer, the 18-year-old told BBC Radio Leicester: “It’s been a whirlwind, a lot of things going on, but I think for me it’s about concentrating on, I’m here at Leicester, I’ve got a contract at Leicester and my aim is to get this club back to the Championship and that’s what I want to do.
“Being focused and stuff, the manager has helped me loads with that, he said that he wants me to stay here and he believes that I can develop into the player that I hopefully will be one day, and I believe that he will get me there as well.”
With speculation ramping up in the final hours of deadline day, Page was preparing to play in Leicester’s League One clash against Plymouth Argyle. The midfielder registered an assist in a 2-0 win, and his name being on the teamsheet effectively ended the possibility of a late move to United before the deadline.

“For me, I was concentrating on, I knew I was playing, and I was like ‘whatever goes on in the background goes on, I don’t need to get involved with that’,” he said.
“I was like ‘right, it’s a massive home game for us, I just need to concentrate on playing, playing well, and making sure we win’, whatever goes on in the background will go on, if I play well then people will say good things. I think that’s what I just concentrate on, playing.”
He added on United's interest: “I just took it as a positive really, if clubs like that are interested in me, it’s obviously down to what I’m doing on the pitch, so as long as I keep doing better and better I can let people do the talking and I’ll just talk on the pitch. My parents always help me stay grounded, they just said: ‘you’re at Leicester now, nobody is telling us any different, so just go out there when you’re playing and play with the freedom and just make sure you play well when you’re playing.’”
Despite him maintaining his focus amid the speculation, the closing of the window until January has come at somewhat of a relief. “I was obviously fully focused anyway on Leicester, but I think now that it’s shut, I know that I’m staying here, everyone knows that I’m staying here,” he said. “So that talk can be put to rest and everyone’s just focused on me playing for Leicester now.”

Page has broken into the Leicester first team as a 17-year-old last season. He has started each of Leicester’s last five games in all competitions and Last weekend saw him play a big part in three of the side’s four goals in a 4-3 win over Stockport County.
“Leicester have given me everything, they’ve given me the opportunities to play in the first team and I feel like I’ve repaid that and we’ve gone down, so now I’ve got to give back to the academy staff that got me into the first team, the first team coaches that have given me the chance,” he said. “I’ve now got to take that responsibility and get the club back into the Championship.”
He added: “We’re the players (the academy products), we’ve seen where this club has been, I’d go as a kid, watch them in the Premier League, Champions League and I think ‘I want to do that with Leicester’. I think that’s the same with Sammy (Braybrooke), Bade (Aluko), Will (Alves) as well, we all want to do that.
“I think it's personal for us that we’re in this situation and it’s now on us to take the club out of it and get them back to where they belong.”
