The 15-year-old left stunned fans this week by informing United that he wants to cancel his registration. The forward limitless potential has been heralded by many and he was crowned the Premier League Under-18 Player of the Year last season.
United remain hope that they can convince Gabriel to remain at the club he's been at since he was 11 years of age. According to Fabrizio Romano, their method to do so won't be by opening the chequebook.
Instead, they'll look to keep the highly-rated teenager by talking to Gabriel, his family and his representatives. The Red Devils retain the option to challenge or reject Gabriel's request to cancel his registration.

Carlos Baleba could make his long-awaited debut for United against Fulham after making a return to training. The 22-year-old has been unavailable since his £65million move to Manchester due to suffering an ankle injury during pre-season with Brighton.
A potential return to the pitch could beckon for the Cameroonian star, according to The Athletic. However, fans may have to wait until next month to watch the midfielder in action.
Club figures are said to be considering keeping him at Carrington during the international break, instead of him going off on national team duty with Cameroon. Baleba had been a long-term target for United and is expected to be a key pillar of their midfield for years to come.
