Michael Carrick continues to convey confidence in his camp despite recent results.

Manchester United have picked just four Premier League points from their four fixtures in the last month, losing 2-0 to newly promoted Hull City and 1-0 to 10-man Manchester City on Sunday.

They also drew 2-2 with Everton, conceding a last-minute leveller, and exited the Carabao Cup in a 3-2 defeat to Brighton after earning a two-goal advantage during the first ten minutes of the match.

For the first time, Carrick is having to handle the pressure cooker of being at the helm of England’s biggest club. But he refuses to think that the team is a bigger crisis than the discourse suggests.

“We're always learning. As a group, individually, as a collective, I think we're always learning. At some point in time, when you're trying to build towards something, it's not always going perfect and it's not always going to plan. Well, I know history tells you, any team that has been successful goes through periods where you've got work from it, got to come through it, you've got to improve.

“We've had a small period now, over this recent time, it hasn't been exactly what we wanted it to be. I was expecting the point at some stage, where we'd go through it. It was going to come. We had such a good spell last season, and going into this season, whether it was going to be now or at some point during the season, there was going to be a time you don't get everything out of it what you wanted.

“It's how you work through it, how you react, staying focused, keep doing the right things and staying as level as best as you can. And you come through, you keep believing you'll come through.

“We fully believe that. It's one of those spells and it's a week or two really, where results haven't gone our way and tiny margins in a couple of those games as well.

“That 95th-minute goal [against Everton ], the goal that shouldn't have been [against Manchester City ]. All of a sudden, not for me but you can feel it's a lot bigger than it is. We'll work through it.

“Winning games is always the answer, it's the answer to a lot of things. It can cover up a lot of things sometimes as well, by winning games, people don't see the whole picture, so it works both ways.

“There are great times, there are things you can achieve and there are great feelings and there are obviously the disappointments and, sometimes, the smaller disappointments lead to being a little bit bigger. It's just part of coping and being at this great football club.

“It's not a catastrophe or a disaster. It's not the end of the world. We're not in a place where we've gone on an awful long run of horrific results. You know, we've lost a couple of games recently.

“We feel that we've started and we've been in all the games that we've played, if not been a better team at the start of games. So, it's not like we're having a real struggle all the time. We've done a lot of good things in them to put ourselves in really good positions in the games that we've been in.

“So, the belief certainly comes from that, of the good things that we've done, that gets totally lost in some ways in the surrounding feeling, but it doesn't get lost by us.”
