Smilla Holmberg's stoppage-time equaliser for Arsenal denied Manchester United a first Women's Super League victory this season.
United had shocked Arsenal by taking the lead midway through the second half when Julia Zigiotti capitalised on an under-hit pass from Georgia Stanway.
But Arsenal kept pushing for an equaliser and eventually got it when Holmberg volleyed a cross from the left into the roof of the net with 90 seconds remaining.
It was a dramatic end to a match in which Manchester United were impressive defensively and put aside the disappointment of their opening two defeats of the season.
The visitors came into the game under heavy criticism for poor displays against London City Lionesses and Chelsea, but this was considerably better.
They were defensively organised, much better in midfield, and were able to cause Arsenal problems on the occasions they did break into the opposition third.
Striker Elisabeth Terland had two of their best chances early on, forcing a double save from goalkeeper Misa Rodriguez.
Arsenal responded as Mariona Caldentey's strike swirled over and Stina Blackstenius' header had to be tipped over the bar by Phallon Tullis-Joyce.
United continued to defend impressively and were rewarded for their efforts when Zigiotti handed them the lead but they could not hold on.
The outcome means Arsenal extend their WSL unbeaten streak to 20 games while new United boss Eva Olid must wait for her first victory.
